Vassily Ivanchuk wins rapid Match against Peter Leko with 3,5:2,5 Chess Grandmasters Vassily Ivanchuk and Peter Leko met in a rapid chess match in Mukachevo already for the second time after their first duel in October 2007. The match was held from 3 to 5 January 2009. Six rapid games were ended with a victory of the Ukrainian Nr 1 who scored 3.5/2.5. From the very beginning Ivanchuk showed better preparation and could have won the match after already four games. But Leko was able to continue the match thanks to his good defending skills. Ivanchuk won a positionally brilliant 5th game adter 77 moves. Leko tried to recover in the last game but was not able to break through Ivanchuk’s defence, whereby the ukrainian repeated his success of 2007. Apart from the first class event which UEP organized in the hometown of its President Josef Resch, a rich supporting programme with national artists and other chess tournaments diversified the days during the event in this small West-ukrainian town.
