Viswanathan Anand and Vladimir Kramnik are the two outstanding personalities in chess today. The film “Fighting for the Crown” portrays the two opponents and their style, and shows why and how they made it to the top. Friends, colleagues, managers, and their wives talk about the two outstanding players. And last but not least we will hear what they have to say about themselves and about each other. The director Bernhard Pfletschinger and the production company Schnittstelle Film and Video GmbH have accompanied Vladimir Kramnik and Viswanathan Anand for almost two years. We see the titleholder from India and his Russian adversary at tournaments in Wijk aan Zee, Moskow, Miskolc , Bonn , Mainz , and Dortmund . Witness the encounter of two extraordinary characters with different philosophies and a common passion: chess.

Dr. Bernhard Pfletschinger works since 1984 as screenwriter and director of documentary films. He received numerous awards, among others the renowned German Adolf-Grimme-prize.
